Extract from a
Wedding Poem

She sees that he

has begun to unpack

his rucksack into

drawers which have

emptied themselves,

offering him a place in

the heart of the

house on the hill.

Watch her brood

now flown, return,

glad to see him

deep in meditation

or cheering his favourite team.

Though do not presume that

life will stand still for

the Artist and the Joiner,

or that this house holds

the rest of their story.

For as I’ve said

the tide has changed

people have passed,

walls crumble,

yet love is unrestrained.

Unpack your bags and stay awhile

Enjoy and celebrate in style

Laugh, love and take your fill

of the joy that’s the essence

of the House on the Hill.
